Under the provisions
of the energy conservation Act 2001, the Bureau of
Energy Efficiency
(BEE) has been established on 1st march 2002, by merging
with it the erstwhile Energy Management Centre of the
Ministry of Power. The BEE would be responsible
for spearheading the improvement of energy efficiency
in the economy through various regulatory and promotional
instruments. The mission of the BEE is to institutionalize
energy efficiency services, promote energy efficiency
delivery mechanism preferably with market participation
and to provide leadership to improvement of energy
efficiency in all sectors of the economy. A Director
General heads the BEE. The general superintendence,
direction and management of the affairs of the BEE
vest in a Governing Council having 26 members. |
CEA |
Central Electricity
Authority (CEA) is a statutory body of the Government
of India , Ministry
of Power involved in planning and development of thermal
and hydro power generation as well as transmission
and distribution network for the country. CEA’s main
thrust
area has been formulation of National Power Plans and
Electricity Policy for the systematic and balanced
development of the power sector. CEA is also involved
in economic
and safe operation of five regional power grids and
in formulation of a national grid in the country by
2012.
CEA is involved in the optimal utilization of natural
resources for energy security and sustainable development
of power thorough development of various renovation
and modernization schemes for power plants, coordinating
research and development and adoption of latest State
of the Art Technology in the power sector. CEA has
been
actively involved in conservation and efficiency programmes
in various thermal power projects. Through energy
audits in thermal power stations and analysis of station
heat
rates, CEA has enabled efficient power generation in
existing power stations. CEA also assists state Electricity
Boards and other utilities by imparting technical expertise
in the field of generation, transmission and distribution. |
GTZ |
The
Deutsche Gesellschaft für
Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH is a German Government-owned
Corporation for international cooperation with worldwide
operations. It operates within scope of the development
policy formula by the federal ministry of Economic
Co-operations and Development, Germany. The Government
of India and
Germany jointly execute the Indo–German Energy Program
(IGEN) through BEE and GTZ respectively. IGEN is the
major contributor to the on going activities on issues
related
to market transformation of energy efficient technologies
and services, optimization of performance of thermal
power stations, institutional capacity building for
preparation and implementation of projects under clean
development
mechanism (CDM). |
KfW |
The Kreditaustaldt
für Wiederaufbau,
(KFW) is Germany’s leading promotional and development
bank
which is playing an active role in the business areas
of investment finance, exports, project finance, financial
cooperation with developing countries, advisory and
other services. KfW draws upon its many years of experience
in the field of financial cooperation in the energy
sector. Its strategies also involve building public
private partnerships in the construction, operation
and financing
of infrastructure projects which include energy generation
and supply. It is committed to support projects bringing
ecology and economics in harmony by stressing on energy
efficiency and renewable energies. |
